It’s the First Day of School for D.C., Prince Georges and Charles County kids!  Love that fresh new start of a new bakcpack, new shoes, and empty notebooks!  Today we’re talking about your hopes for your kids in the new school year.  Hope is not a wishy washy feeling…the actual definition of the word “Hope” used in the Bible is….”a confident expectation of good things from God.”  So tell us what your hopes are for your kids in the new school year.  If you missed your chance to call in during the show…just comment here on the blog!

See full size imageA great way to help your child adjust to school is with a book!  I love “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn.  It helps a child that has separation anxiety and doesn’t wan to leave mom or dad to go to school.  It’s a story of a little racoon who doesn’t want to go to school.  So the Mommy Racoon kisses his hand and tells him to keep it in the palm of his hand all day.  Then the little racoon gives his mommy a kiss to last all day.  So sweet!   The book comes with stickers to put on your child so they have mom or dad’s kiss on their hand all day.  Here’s a list of more books from  Top Children’s Books About Starting School

Today’s Positive Thoughts

Without hard work, nothing grows but weeks.

Give it all you’ve got because you never know if there’s going to be a next time.

Be a good listener.  Your ears will never get you in trouble.

The longer we dwell on our misfortunes, the greater is their power to harm us.

Our friends should be companions who inspire us, who help us rise to our best.

When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.
